The Palestinian Authority has achieved much through a comprehensive plan of institution building and fiscal strengthening since 2007. Progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) remains favourable with the exception of goal one, eradicating extreme poverty and hunger. In spite of good results in primary education enrolment, the quality of basic education requires improvement. Lack of control over natural resources, particularly water and land, remain a significant challenge towards ensuring environmental sustainability. The on-going socio-economic and political crisis in the Occupied Palestinian Territory in general and the Gaza strip in particular are expected to cause deterioration in MDG indicators.
