Madagascar has been suffering from a political crisis since 2009 and is not expected to reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. The poverty rate has sharply increased since 2009, with three quarters of households living under the poverty line. The Goals for child mortality and primary education enrolment and completion can no longer be secured in time. In addition, the country is particularly vulnerable to natural disasters, including cyclones, droughts and floods. It is also faced with the challenge of preserving its unique environment and biodiversity of global significance.
